Recumbent Bikes

Recumbent exercise bikes — semi-reclined bikes with back support. Easier on the lower back and joints, suitable for longer sessions, rehab use, and senior fitness.

We carry recumbent bikes from Body Solid (commercial-grade), Life Fitness (premium commercial), and supporting brands.

Why recumbent vs upright bikes:

• Back support — built-in seat back reduces lower-back stress
• Easier joint loading — less weight on knees and ankles than upright cycling
• Longer comfortable sessions — supported position allows extended cardio without saddle discomfort
• Better for rehab — physical therapy clinics often prefer recumbent for patient comfort
• Easier mounting — step-through frame; suitable for senior or accessibility-focused users

Recumbent vs upright tradeoffs:

• Calorie burn — slightly lower than upright (less core engagement)
• Footprint — recumbent bikes are longer than upright (5-6 ft length typical)
• Standing intervals — not possible on recumbent (some users miss this for HIIT)

Specs that matter:

• Flywheel weight — heavier provides smoother motion (15-25 lb typical for recumbent)
• Resistance type — magnetic (smoothest, quietest) vs friction
• Max user weight — verify rating supports user (residential 250-350 lb)
• Seat adjustability — sliding seat track accommodates different leg lengths
• Heart rate sensors — pulse-grip handles standard; chest strap compatibility on premium
