Choose by drive type:

• Front-drive elliptical — most common; flywheel in front; lower stride length, smaller footprint
• Rear-drive elliptical — flywheel in back; longer stride length, more natural motion, better for tall users
• Center-drive elliptical — flywheel directly under user; shortest footprint, premium engineering

Specs that matter:

• Stride length — 18" minimum for average users, 20-22"+ for tall users (over 6 ft)
• Flywheel weight — heavier (20+ lb) provides smoother motion; lighter fine for casual
• Resistance type — magnetic (smoothest, quietest) vs friction (cheaper)
• Incline — fixed (residential entry) or adjustable (premium); higher incline targets glutes
• Max user weight — verify rating supports user (250-350 lb residential, 400+ commercial)
• Console — heart rate monitoring, programmed workouts, app connectivity on premium models
