A multi station gym lets several people train at once on one frame, which suits light-commercial weight rooms such as corporate gyms, school weight rooms, apartment fitness rooms and personal training studios. Plate-loaded machines solve a different problem, heavy lower-body work without a full barbell setup. This guide compares Paradigm's PC-Series Multi-Stack range (MS-A4, MS-A5, MS-A8 and MS-B4, plus the MS-SP and MS-CONN expansion pieces) and two plate-loaded leg machines, the PC-PL56 and PC-PL59, so you can match the machine to your users, your room and your budget for floor space.
Choose a multi station gym when the main problem is throughput: several people need to train at the same time with simple, safe, selectorized stations. Choose plate-loaded machines when the main problem is load: you want heavy leg work with a guided path and you already own plates.
Selectorized stacks are quick to adjust with a pin, which matters in a room where users rotate between stations and many of them are not experienced lifters. Plate-loaded machines need plates and a little more knowledge to load and unload, but they let a strong user go heavy without the balance and technique demands of a barbell squat. Many facilities end up with both: a multi-stack for the group and one or two plate-loaded leg machines for the lifters who need more.
The Paradigm MS-A4 Multi-Stack 4 has four stations for four people training at once: low row, lat pulldown and adjustable pulley at 220 lb (100 kg) each, plus a high pulley at 175 lb (80 kg). It is built on a 4 x 2 in, 11-gauge steel main frame with a three-layer powder coat, includes a lat bar, short bar, triceps rope and handle, and measures 136 x 58 x 89 in with a product weight of 1,415 lb. Paradigm states that it expands into a 5-stack or 8-stack system.
The MS-A5 Multi-Stack 5 lets up to five people train at once across low row, lat pulldown, two adjustable pulleys at 220 lb each and a 175 lb high pulley. The two adjustable pulleys form a cable crossover station, and there is a pull-up bar station as well. It measures 136 x 172 x 89 in and has a product weight of 1,807 lb, and includes 1 lat bar, 1 short bar, 1 triceps rope and 2 handles.
The MS-A8 Multi-Stack 8 doubles everything: 2 low rows, 2 lat pulldowns and 2 adjustable pulleys at 220 lb each, plus 2 high pulleys at 175 lb each, with cable crossover and pull-up bar stations. Up to eight people can train at once. It measures 136 x 201 x 89 in and has a product weight of 2,875 lb, so it is a facility machine and needs a floor plan built around it.
The MS-B4 Multi-Stack 4 Version B swaps most of the cable stations for isolated machines. It has an adjustable chest press at 220 lb, a leg curl/extension at 220 lb, a leg press at 242 lb (110 kg) and one adjustable pulley at 220 lb for functional cable work. Four people can train at once. It measures 125 x 102 x 89 in and has a product weight of 1,775 lb, and it includes 1 handle.
The choice between Version A and Version B is a programming choice. Version A is pull-heavy: rows, pulldowns and cable work, which is great for upper-body and posture-focused training. Version B covers the lower body and pressing with machines that are easy to teach, which suits a room full of beginners or a facility where users need to get through a full-body session with minimal coaching. If your users are mostly new to strength training, I recommend Version B, because a guided leg press, leg curl and leg extension are simpler to learn than any free-weight lower-body lift.
The MS-SP Multi-Stack Single Pulley is a single adjustable-height pulley station with a 220 lb stack, on a 25 x 27 in footprint and 89 in tall, with a product weight of 357 lb. It works on its own as a compact cable station.
The MS-CONN Multi-Stack Connector links two Paradigm Multi-Stack systems and adds two pull-up bars, one standard and one parallel. It measures 99 x 17 x 5.5 in, weighs 60 lb, and is compatible only with Paradigm Multi-Stack systems.
The documented upgrade path is simple: add an MS-SP and an MS-CONN to an MS-A4 and you have an MS-A5. That makes the MS-A4 a sensible starting point for a facility that expects to grow, since you are not replacing the machine later, only adding to it.
The PC-PL56 compact leg press and calf raise is a plate-loaded machine for heavy lower-body training without a full-size sled. It runs on premium linear bearings, uses a 4 x 2 in, 10-gauge steel frame and high-resilience polyurethane foam padding, and measures 59 x 57 x 51 in with a product weight of 276 lb. The low 51 in height makes it one of the easiest machines here to fit into a basement.
The PC-PL59 45-degree leg press and hack squat switches between the two movements on one machine. It uses a 3 x 3 in, 11-gauge ladder frame, 1.75 in guide rods with premium linear bearings and a 1,000 lb weight capacity, with 3 starting-height positions, a large adjustable footplate with 5 lower plate positions and 4 Olympic plate holders. It measures 89 x 62 x 62 in and has a product weight of 538 lb. Plates are sold separately for both machines.
Leg press and hack squat are excellent for building quads and glutes with less spinal loading and less balance demand than a barbell squat. Set the footplate so your knees track in line with your toes, use a depth you can control without your lower back rounding off the pad, and add load in small steps. For hip extension work to pair with them, see our hip thrust machine buying guide.

Start with the floor plan, not the catalog. Every multi-stack here is 89 in tall, so a standard ceiling usually works, but the length and width vary a lot: from 136 x 58 in for the MS-A4 to 136 x 201 in for the MS-A8. Add walking space around each station so users can get in and out without stepping over a cable or a bench, and check doorways and delivery access, because these machines are heavy.
Next, count your peak users. If four people train at the busiest hour, an MS-A4 or MS-B4 covers them. If you expect growth, the MS-A4 plus MS-SP and MS-CONN route lets you add capacity later. Then fill the gaps: a multi-stack covers pulling and cable work well, and a PC-PL56 or PC-PL59 handles heavy leg training. A rack for barbell work rounds out the room; see our half rack vs power cage guide if you need one.
Large racks and machines ship by freight to the lower 48 states and DC, calculated at checkout by weight. Smaller items ship free on orders over $999 (certain exclusions apply).
On warranty: residential use carries a limited lifetime warranty. Light commercial use is covered for 10 years on the frame; 5 years on structural moving parts, guide rods, bearings, bushings, weight plates and pulleys; 1 year on finish, paint, cables, pull-pin components and upholstery; and 1 year on all other parts. Warranty service requires product registration with Paradigm or proof of purchase.
Browse every machine in our Paradigm Fitness collection, and pair your multi-stack with a cable machine from our functional trainers collection or a bench from our workout benches collection.
Add a Multi-Stack Single Pulley (MS-SP) and a Multi-Stack Connector (MS-CONN) to the MS-A4.
The MS-A4 uses cable stations: low row, lat pulldown, adjustable pulley and high pulley. The MS-B4 uses isolated stations, an adjustable chest press, leg curl/extension and leg press, plus one adjustable pulley.
The PC-PL59 has a 1,000 lb weight capacity and 4 Olympic plate holders. Plates are sold separately.
No. The MS-CONN is compatible only with Paradigm Multi-Stack systems.
The PC-PL56 compact leg press is 51 in tall, and the PC-PL59 is 62 in tall. The multi-stacks are all 89 in tall.
