Calf training machines — seated calf raise (soleus focus), standing calf raise (gastrocnemius focus), donkey calf raise, and combo calf machines for serious lower-leg development.

Choose by muscle target:
- Standing calf raise — gastrocnemius focus (the "diamond" calf muscle); heaviest loading possible
- Seated calf raise — soleus focus (the deeper calf muscle); typically lighter loads, higher reps
- Donkey calf raise — bent-over standing position; classic Arnold-era movement, deep gastrocnemius stretch
- Smith machine calf raise — uses Smith machine for stability + safety
- Standing belt-loaded calf raise — weight loaded on hip belt vs shoulders (spinal decompression)
Specs that matter:
- Plate capacity — calves can handle huge loads; verify 600+ lb capacity for serious lifters
- Foot platform — adjustable for calf stretch (deep ROM matters for development)
- Pad density — high-density shoulder pads on standing models reduce neck pressure on heavy loads
- Frame gauge — 11-gauge for residential, 7-gauge for commercial
